A Little Reading: The Night Circus

Ever since I got a Kindle I've been attempting to read more. So far I've read two celebrity memoirs and less than half of the Tiger's Wife. I wanted to start something new, but I was reluctant to buy another book that I probably wouldn't finish. I listen to The Heatly Cliff podcasts, and Amy and Sheryl make a lot of book recommendations. Amy is a writer, and she said she was jealous that she hadn't written The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern did). That sounded like a pretty good review to me.

I read this book in about a week which should give you some indication of how much I enjoyed it. I love getting swept up in a book that you can't stop reading, but I was genuinely sad when it was over. It's like that perfect piece of chocolate cake that you devour and then regret that you didn't take the time to savor it. But the time I did get to spend with the night circus was the most magical reading experience that I've had in a long time (yeah, I'm eyeing you Harry Potter).

I've been fretting a bit over how to describe what it's about without giving too much away. Two magicians, Celia and Marco, find themselves pitted against each other in a game that they don't entirely understand. It's a love story between the two of them. It's an ode to creativity and imagination. But for me the true star of the book is the circus itself. It's mysteriously enchanting, and before long you'll find yourself desperately wishing that a circus like this actually existed.

I'm not tryin' to say that everybody wants to go

I completely forgot to post this earlier, but here's the desktop wallpaper for June and a sea inspired playlist to go along with it. You can download the wallpaper here. Enjoy!
